ProQual Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA)
The level three Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, otherwise known as CAVA, is the leading recognised workplace assessor qualification in the UK and beyond.
This Certificate replaces the well-known older assessor training certificates, the A1 / A2 and D32 / D33 assessor qualifications.

Who is this for?
This qualification is designed to help aspiring assessors, trainers and competence managers, to progress into an assessor role. The CAVA, allows you to manage and perform assessments for learners, aiming to complete formal regulated qualifications such as as SVQ’s NVQ’s, apprenticeships, Diploma’s and can provide a quality assured way of ensuring workplace competence within organisations and companies.
Unlike other assessor qualifications, the CAVA allows learning to be assessed in a place of work or a learning environment. There are no entry requirements except from a minimum level of English proficiency, which will allow you to write reports and complete coursework for assessment purposes.
What you should expect from this course
Our experienced trainers will deliver this training directly to learners, then assess both the vocational assessment reports and the vocational assessment reports produced for the learner’s portfolio This is a cost effective way to up-skill multiple people, whilst up-skilling, building confidence and greater understanding of standards/law/compliance
Expected time dedication
You should expect to spend around 90 hours on this qualification, 54 of which are guided learning.
Learning Outcomes
The qualification is made up of three modules
Unit 1 – Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment
The first unit in the assessor training course focuses on developing a strong theoretical foundation. It covers the basic principles and practices of assessment, emphasising the role and responsibilities of an assessor. This is delivered via our online video tutorials or by our trainers in our online classroom or live at your location.
Assessed by completing a written workbook which is uploaded onto the portal.
Unit 2 – Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding
Assess vocational skills, knowledge, and understanding. Completed through the uploading of assessment evidence including plans, assessment records and feedback. You must have two learners enrolled on regulated qualifications to assess and build your evidence portfolio.
Assessed by completing 4 workplace vocational assessment reports which are uploaded into the portal.
Unit 3 – Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment
Assess occupational competence in the work environment. Completed through the upload of assessment evidence including plans, assessment records and feedback. You must have two learners enrolled on regulated qualifications to assess and build your evidence portfolio.
Assessed by completing 4 workplace competence assessment reports which are uploaded into the portal.
Assessment method
The first unit covers basic principles and practices of assessment, emphasising the role and responsibilities of an assessor. This is delivered by video tutorial or directly with your tutor. Assessed by completing a written workbook which is uploaded onto the portal.
The second unit is to assess vocational skills, knowledge, and understanding: completed through the uploading of assessment evidence including plans, assessment records and feedback. You will do this by assessing two other learner enrolled on a course performing two tasks, (2+2=) 4 assessments to be uploaded to the portal.
The third and final unit is to assess occupational competence in the work environment. Completed through the upload of assessment evidence including plans, assessment records and feedback. You will do this by assessing two other learner enrolled on a course performing two tasks, (2+2=) 4 assessments to be uploaded to the portal.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification other than a good grasp of the English language (workbooks must be completed) and access to a computer to upload your work products and to complete your micro-teach sessions (Micro teach sessions must be completed within 6 months of purchase)

This qualification is ideal for those who are looking to practice as assessors in the workplace or classroom environments. It is particularly suitable for teachers, trainers, and those involved in vocational education and training.
The course is delivered over two days in a classroom setting with an experienced instructor leading the learning. This ensures hands-on guidance and interactive learning opportunities. We can also bring the training and qualification to your location.
The course comprises of 2 days in the classroom learning and then the time it takes to do the assessments. Estimated time is 54 hours between the classroom and studying, and including the assessment hours 90 hours in total for the whole qualification.

The course includes a mix of practical and theoretical assessments. Learners will complete written assignments, engage in practical assessment activities, and compile a portfolio of evidence. This portfolio is a main part of the qualification; it is the collective evidence of competency and understanding of assessment practices.
Upon successful completion of the course and all assessments, you will receive the Level Three Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, otherwise known as CAVA, from Proqual, which is accredited and recognised across vocational sectors.
There are no formal entry requirements. An English verbal and writing proficiency, to allow you to discuss and write content related to the learning outcomes and your work activities, and ideally have access to learners they can assess.

There is no mandatory renewal period for the Level 3 CAVA course. However, it is recommended to stay updated with the latest assessor practices and attend refresher courses and/or seminars periodically.
