What you should expect from this course
This qualification will be delivered by experienced trainers through an engaging online format. Unit 1 Understand what is meant by mental health.
1.1 Identify what is meant by the terms:

1.3 Describe how the actions of others can negatively affect individuals with a mental health condition.
1.4 Explain the mental health continuum.
Unit 2 Understand common mental health conditions.
2.1 Identify the signs and symptoms of the following:
• Depression.
• Substance abuse.
• Addiction.
• Anxiety disorders, including phobias.
• Post-traumatic stress disorder.
• Self-harm.
• Suicide.
• Eating disorders.
• Personality disorders.
• Psychotic disorders
2.2 Identify the risk factors of the following:
• Depression.
• Substance abuse.
• Addiction.
• Anxiety disorders, including phobias.
• Post traumatic stress disorder.
• Self-harm.
• Suicide.

Unit 3 Understand the role of the mental health first aider.
3.1 Describe the skills required by a mental health first aider.
3.2 Identify common treatments and/or interventions used for managing mental ill health.
3.3 Describe how the mental health first aider can support individuals showing signs or symptoms of mental health disorders or problems.
3.4 Identify sources of reliable information, support and guidance for mental health first aiders.
3.5 Identify examples of strategies that can reduce the risk of mental health issues arising.

Assessment method
The ProQual Level 2 Mental Health First Aid Awareness course is competence-based. Learners must demonstrate their understanding and competence through the successful completion of assessments. The course is assessed internally by an experienced and qualified assessor. Feedback is provided by the assessor remotely, and learners will receive email feedback on completion of each module. If any amendments are necessary, learners can simply re-upload their revised work for further assessment.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification other than a good grasp of the English language (workbooks must be completed) and access to a computer to upload your work products and to complete your assessment sessions (Assessment sessions must be completed within 6 months of purchase)

The qualification is fully remote and self led. This allows you to work through the material at your own pace while having access to guidance and mentorship when needed.
It is really down to the learner: the duration of the course varies depending on individual progress, but it typically takes 2 days in the classroom and then about 5 hours to complete the final assessment.

Yes. There will be a written workbook. Learners will be able to work offline and at their own pace. Once completed, the assessments can be emailed over to the trainer.
Upon completion the learner will receive a Level 2 Certificate in Mental health First Aid Awareness and will have gained good insight into mental health awareness, be able to spot when others are
suffering from mental health and be able to help in the journey towards the positive mental health of those around them, such as co-workers and students.
There are no formal entry requirements; however this course would best serve directors, managers, team leaders, MHFA’s, teachers, trainers etc. An English verbal and writing proficiency, to allow you to discuss and write content related to the learning outcomes and your work activities.

There is no mandatory renewal period for this Level 2 course. However, it is recommended to stay updated with the latest assessor practices and attend refresher courses (every two years) and/or seminars periodically (continue with CPD for any memberships). If you go over three years, it is recommended that you do the full course again.
No. This is a level 2 course on the Ofqual qualifications framework, therefore this is not eligible for ELCAS funding.
